Friday, March 17: St. Patrick’s Day in Vegas

We said good bye to my parents and headed out of Zion park Friday morning. We were going to try to do a hike along the route back to Vegas, but missed the trailhead signs and didn’t feel up to backtracking. We decided instead to check out old Vegas on Fremont St. not thinking about the fact that it was St. Patrick’s day. We walked into a parade and a sea of drunken green. We stopped at a bar and drank a Guinness on the patio, which made for good people watching. We then continued to walk around, beer in hand, along the sidewalk, feeling like I was breaking the law. I gambled for the first time, losing 80 cents at a slot machine.

We then headed back to the main strip to meet up with David’s cousin and uncle. Afterwards, we dropped the car off at the rental place and headed to the airport, tired and ready to be home after an amazing trip with challenging hikes, great people, four states, beautiful landscapes, and a break from life in Cleveland.
