Sunday, May 30th: Hiking & Kayaking Hinckley Reservation

Hinckley Lake to Buckeye Trail to Whipp’s Ledges Loop Trail, Hinckley Reservation

Distance: About 3.1 miles

Approximate hiking time: 1.5 hours

Difficulty: Easy, except for the hidden Buckeye Trail

Trail surface: Paved, gravel

Land Status: Public

Happy Memorial Day! We wanted to spend the day outside and with the warm weather we figured we would try to incorporate kayaking into that. We chose the hike at Hinckley Reservation so that we could rent some kayaks afterward and paddle around on the lake. The hike itself was along Hinckley Lake and the all purpose trail. It was a really nice hike with a lot of cicadas around… A mounted police officer passed us on the trail riding a beautiful brown horse, and we spent a few minutes watching the herons in the lake. We could not find the trail head for the out and back section of the Buckeye Trail, so we cut the hike short a bit and headed back for a pre kayaking picnic.
